Australia’s Unofficial Entry into Eurovision, Diamond Heist=COMPLETE

Drum roll please here is the final copy of Diamond heist and the lyrics!!

Diamond Heist

Verse

Partners in crime, thick as thieves,
can I trust you in time?
Or will you deceive?
I suppose it doesn’t matter, I can’t do this alone.
We will be a team until this heist is done and gone

Verse 2

Gather your disguise, refine your lies
choose your weapon with care
the stakes are high
the treasure’s in a vault, 30 feet under ground
accomplice to the end, complete the job at all costs

Verse 3

Partners in crime, thick as thieves,
can I trust you in time?
the stakes are high
the treasure’s in a vault, 30 feet under ground
accomplice to the end, complete the job at all costs

Chorus

100 carat stone, it’s crystal clear
Cut to shine brighter than the moon
Colour of the stars, it’s ours to take
This flawless paragon will be our reward

Bridge

Picking locks, bribing guards,
cracking safes, hacking logs
Jumping lasers, grappling hooks
swapping fakes, lying crooks

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed, a special thanks to my youth pastor who helped me fix my recording problems and agreed to sing it even though I made the melody difficult to sing 😛

Now please share it!!!
We have less than 24 hours to show Eurovision this, please share this either by the blog link or by sharing the soundcloud file on twitter or Eurovision’s official facebook page with the #MyEurovisionIdea

AUEE-Recording update, sad news

The recording equipment I was using has died again, by the time we can get it fixed I won’t be in time to send it in to Eurovision as an idea for their Interval act. I will still pursue this project when the equipment is back up, might as well record it now but no Eurovision dreams this year.

*EDIT* It is going ahead, I repeat it is going ahead!! Stay tuned for my upcoming post!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AUEE-Recording Update 1, stumbling block

Today I spent a long day with my two singers, working on getting the melody right then recording the first verse and harmony. After they left I attempted to record my dad playing his bass ukulele (sounds like a double bass but it’s portable), unfortunately couldn’t get that to work. I sent the wrong music to my pianist, sorry booklovers1!! Then recorded my two sax tracks. I left to go home and eat dinner, came back and the computer had completely wiped all my newly created files. I lost hours of my work and have to start the recording from scratch. Scary as Eurovision isn’t accepting suggestions after the 31st of January. Even more scary that I found someone who knows what they’re doing and agreed to mix the final track but I need to get it to them on Monday evening.
The other main issue is that I have know idea how to mix drum and electronic sounds into it, I’ve been watching YouTube tutorials etc. and mucking around with it but so far things aren’t good….
On the plus side my singers sound amazing even though I made the vocal line quite complex, my dad can play the bass line and my sax parts sounded pretty cool.
Massive learning curve!!

At this stage this project of ours could go either way, but I’m spending all my time on it and I’m praying for the best 🙂

AUEE-Music update 6

I’ve added verse 2&3 melody added, intro added and variation in the bass line on the second time through the bridge. I also tried to turn everything down so you can hear the voice… The parts where it seems like nothing is really happening or building I’m hoping to fill with singers and drum stuff. Please give feedback 🙂

AUEE- Lyric Update 6 Completed!!

After I posted my last update I was totally inspired with the next verse (thank you God for hearing my prayer), and decided that verse 3 would be a mash up of verse 1 & 2! That means our lyrics are completed!!!

Diamond Heist

Verse

Partners in crime, thick as thieves,
can I trust you in time?
Or will you deceive?
I suppose it doesn’t matter, I can’t do this alone.
We will be a team until this heist is done and gone

Verse 2

Gather your disguise, refine your lies
choose your weapon with care
the stakes are high
the treasure’s shut up in a vault*, 30 feet under ground
accomplice to the end, complete the job at all costs

Verse 3

Partners in crime, thick as thieves,
can I trust you in time?
the stakes are high
the treasure’s shut up in a vault*, 30 feet under ground
accomplice to the end, complete the job at all costs

Chorus

100 carat stone, it’s crystal clear
Cut to shine brighter than the moon
Colour of the stars, it’s ours to take
This flawless paragon will be our reward

AUEE-Music Update 5 bridge, stucture, voice

The really bad sounding keyboard thing is meant to be a voice and since my computer can’t sing lyrics that’s the best it can do. Because of this the voice kind of blends into the back which is hopefully not what it will do. I got it in the structure of verse, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus, chorus. I just want to get the lyrics in now then I will tweak the arrangement a little, and hopefully add little transitional pieces in between sections.
Please check out my lyric update 5 and help me if you can 🙂

AUEE-Lyric update 5 bridge

Ok so no we have a chorus, verse and bridge!! All we need lyrics wise now is two more verses… to be totally honest stressing a little over lyrics, their not really my forte. I’m going to attempt to write the next two but am praying for a lyric miracle. Here is what we have so far:

Verse

Partners in crime, thick as thieves,
can I trust you in time?
Or will you deceive?
I suppose it doesn’t matter, I can’t do this alone.
We will be a team until this heist is done and gone

Chorus

100 carat stone, it’s crystal clear
Cut to shine brighter than the moon
Colour of the stars, it’s ours to take
This flawless paragon will be our reward

Bridge

Picking locks, bribing guards,
cracking safes, hacking logs
Jumping lasers, grappling hooks
swapping fakes, lying crooks

Australia’s unofficial entry into Eurovision-BIG NEWS

If a song contest can unite a continent why can't it unite countries on a global scale?

If a song contest can unite a continent why can’t it unite countries on a global scale?

After not much success with last week’s post on Australia’s unofficial entry into Eurovision (for those of you who have just tuned in we were writing a song to become Australia’s unofficial entry into Eurovision, a massive song contest in Europe) I was doing some research on Eurovision to come up with new ideas when I came across this. http://www.eurovision.tv/page/news?id=94033&_t=happy_new_year_7_things_to_wait_for_in_2014
It says that they are asking for fans ideas on what to perform on the interval act. Now I know it’s a long shot but if we could get this song completed by January 31st maybe just maybe we could get them to perform it.

What does that mean for us?
It means we are going to be incredibly busy and will have to stick to a strict schedule, so I’m going to need you help.
3/1- 11/1 lyrics need to be written
12/1 – 18/1 music needs to be composed (I will also be starting to compose in the first week as well)
19/1 – 25/1 song needs to be recorded by musicians
26/1 – 31/1 we need to attract Eurovision’s attention

What can I do to help?
I need you guys to contribute ideas, I don’t care what country you’re from, if you have an idea I want to hear it. After all the one of the slogan’s for Eurovision 2014 is #JoinUs. If a song contest can unite a continent why can’t it unite countries on a global scale?

Lyric ideas:
The sooner we get the lyrics to our the song, the easier it will be to write the actual melody. I’ve looked into it a bit (hours of research on YouTube 😛 ) and have seen that love songs always go down really well, but I think we should also include Australian things. Lastly the kind of theme this year is around diamonds. “Eurovision diamond symbolises what the competition means to us: A hub that is at once sparkling and strong. Diamond has lots of different sides and shows the diversity and the richness that will be on stage at the Eurovision Song Contest,” says the Executive Producer of the show, Pernille Gaardbo.
Yes I know, I’ve never heard of a love song about gum trees and diamonds either but if we go with that at least it will be unique.
At this stage I’m looking for anything, the song will be in a verse chorus structure. If you have an idea for one line or you think a certain word should be used tell me.

Music ideas:
I want all your musical ideas, anything, chord progressions, a small phrase, licks, keys, what instruments you want to be playing at what time. So far on this series of posts we talked about having a violin and cello, also a glockenspiel however I have no idea where I would be able to arrange a glockenspiel player to help record the song on such short notice so unless someone has a radical idea we are going to need something else. Also we need to know how many vocalists we are going to have, my own opinion is that if we have more than one we could create some awesome harmonies but since this is our song I’m creating a poll. The types of vocalists will depend on who I can get in touch with to sing on the recording.

Spread the word:
If you have friend who is musical or good at creative writing who you think would like to help let them know. We also need to attract Eurovision’s attention, if create enough support for this they might consider us. They asked for people to send in their ideas using the hashtag #MyEurovisionIdea so spread it round.

In the meantime I will begin composing because of time constraints and I will post updates on our progress hopefully every couple of days. So in the words of the tag line for Eurovision 2014 #JoinUs and help us to create Australia’s unofficial entry into Eurovison!!

LYRICS COMPLETED!!!

Australia’s unofficial entry into Eurovision

eurovisionI really love watching Eurovision, the colourful costumes, the camaraderie between the countries competing and of course the songs! Much to my disappointment Australia is not allowed to enter as we are out of the European Broadcasting Zone, which is fair enough I guess. So I thought with the help of you guys we could create Australia’s unofficial entry into the song contest. Each week on Friday I’ll post questions on what type of song you want then slowly compose it till it’s finished. Now I must warn you I’m not the most brilliant composer in the world, this is just for fun. Also if you composed something, like a chord progression, a small lick or a tiny melodic phrase, or even lyrics send it in and I’ll try and add that if you would like. If you’re not from Australia please feel free to join in it will still be fun. Remember the song is not allowed to exceed 3 mins. Ok so the first couple of questions!

  1. Is there  a particular key you wanted the song in? (e.g. major, minor, modes, sharps or flats?)
  2. Tempo? (e.g. fast or slow)
  3. Time signature? (e.g. 4/4, 3/4 or more exotic ones? For non musical people this means how many beats are in a bar, this creates a pulse or rhythmic drive in the song and 4/4 is the most common)
  4. What would you like the song to be about? (lyrics wise, I’d definitely like some help there)
  5. Is there a particular style you would like the song to be in? (e.g. a genre, like jazz or classical or pop, if I don’t know much about that style I’ll do some research first :P)
  6. What instruments did you want? (Rules say only six performers are allowed on stage)

So I think five’s enough to start with, I hope you have fun and join in! Last thing, let’s try and finish it before the competition happens next year which is in May and is held in Denmark.
